Joel is a California native who earned his B.A. in political science from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, in 1997. After graduation, he moved to Washington, D.C., where he worked with members of Congress and political organizations. His career later brought him to Las Vegas after he and his future wife decided to move to her hometown.
Joel enrolled at the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he clerked for criminal defense attorney Steven B. Wolfson, who later became Clark County District Attorney. He also gained experience through the school’s Juvenile Justice Clinic and a summer internship with the U.S. Attorney’s Office. After earning his J.D. in 2002, he worked in the Clark County District Attorney’s Office Appellate Division before joining a Las Vegas criminal defense firm.

After working in the Clark County District Attorney’s Office and gaining private practice experience, Joel opened his own firm in 2006. Joel serves on the board of the Las Vegas Anti-Defamation League and has served on the board of his synagogue, including a term as president.
