Both the Lizzo Lawsuits Have pretty Similar Allegations

No doubt, Lizzo is a very famous personality in the world, and when you see her name popping up in the headlines regarding some Lizzo Lawsuit, then it is certain to catch your attention, right? Well, that is why a lot of fans and non-fans are talking about these lawsuits, because there have been two back-to-back cases filed against her, and both of these cases are ongoing. So, for some reason, if you didn’t catch up with what is really going on in these cases or what they’re all about, then we’d like you to just keep on reading.

How the 2023 Dancers’ Lawsuit Started

Lizzo Lawsuits

Getting on with the backstory here, see, it was actually in ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌August 2023, a suit was brought against Lizzo and her company Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc. by three former backup dancers, like Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez. We want it to get out of the way first that they alleged that the tour work environment was toxic and that they were in an uncomfortable environment. Alright?

And if you trace back it all to their allegations, well, they went on to say that they were forced to watch sex shows in Amsterdam, they were made to touch the performers, and they were subjected to racial discrimination, religious discrimination, and were even in a few instances that they referred to as being “falsely ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌imprisoned”. Those are pretty serious ones, to be honest!

And later down the line, though, during‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ 2024 to be exact, the magistrate threw out a few minor allegations like fat-shaming and problems with a photo shoot for which there was no evidence.

Lizzo’s Response and the Impact on Her

It is true that Lizzo‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ took to Instagram to say that none of these things were true just after the filing of the lawsuit. Which may look like she was justifying herself and that is what a lot of people called it out as. Like, in her statements made online, she clearly branded the accusations as “lies” and conveyed that the dancers were fuming because they had been terminated for unprofessional conduct. That’s all!

And then, we came to find out that in a 2025 interview, the singer went on to talk about how all of this situation has had a greater impact on her mental health and it wasn’t just a small thing she can forget. She said she wanted to quit is all altogether, but it was in a Beyoncé concert where the audience’s cheer for her lifted her spirits and helped her to ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌continue.

The Legal Back-and-Forth in 2024 and 2025

No doubt, when these lawsuits made it to the court, her (Lizzo’s) attorneys appealed several times. They clearly went on to say that these cases are just to defame Lizzo’s image and nothing else. And if you think that all of this ended just there, well nah, that wasn’t it, though. See, in their defense, they invoked the anti-SLAPP statute of California which is designed to shield individuals against suits that aim at muffling their rights of ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌speech.

While all of this was going on, see, the dancers’ attorney expressed the opinion that Lizzo was merely attempting to get away with no trial.

And just so you know what went down further in this lawsuit, see, the magistrate acknowledged that it is not the courts’ role to interfere with artistic choices, but at the same time emphasized that even in such cases, very grave allegations of harassment and discrimination cannot be ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌disregarded.

And then you must have heard that a stylist of Lizzo also filed a lawsuit against her, and she goes by the name Asha Daniels. That was back in 2023 as well. And the allegations were pretty much similar too. And just so you know, both of these cases are still ongoing. So if it is a big deal for you, we’d like you to keep checking back for updates.
