Why Did People Decide To Sue Google?

How Are These Lawsuits Connected To Gmail Users?
And sure enough, when we talk about all this, the majority of it has a lot to do with Android phones and Google Assistant, and that is directly connected to one’s Gmail account. Like, you may already know that Gmail is just one part of your Google account, though an important one because it lets you use or sign up to other services.

Like, some individuals alleged that their devices recorded overheard parts of conversations by accident because the assistant started listening even without the users saying the wake words like “Hey Google,” which sounds like a glitch, but it could very well mean something else too. And when this case went to the court, no doubt, Google went on to accept their fault in all this and they decided to settle this case for a whopping $68 million, and that was back in January 2026.
And then, there was another Google lawsuit, this time it had a lot to do with the Android phones and how these phones were using mobile data in the background. Like? Well, when closely looked at, some users found that their devices were sending small packets of data back to Google, which should not be happening, but that was the case. And once again, Google decided to settle this case as well when it ended up in court and they did this to save Google name’s reputation, and that’s why the sum was huge, like $135 million.

As a result of this shared platform, privacy concerns associated with one service may also impact the wider Google account environment.
