So let’s get to know the allegations he made and what happened later on.

Who Is Brian Flores?

Brian Flores Lawsuit

Before we go into the details of this case, it would be a logical thing to get to know who Brian Flores is, right? Well, for those who know little to absolutely nothing about him, see, he is a famous football coach who was with the New England Patriots for a few years before he went on to be the head coach of the Miami Dolphins in ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌2019.

And when he was with the Dolphins, coaching them for almost three years, no doubt, through this stint there, he put up decent numbers and even made two consecutive seasons winning ones. But then in 2022, the news came out, and it was the fact that he was let go, and the news was a shock to almost everyone. Pretty much! After not receiving a new head coaching offer in a short amount of time, people started wondering about the reasons behind it, and that was genuine thing to ask as a fan, right? And just right after that, we saw how Flores was out there suing the league and several ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌teams. Let’s get to know why.

What Is the Lawsuit About?

So, let’s get right into the allegations he made, so, first of all, Flores alleges that the NFL discriminated against them in the hiring and firing of Black coaches. As per the details of this case so far, he simply and strongly says the league and teams may look like they are hiring in a fair way, but in fact, they just pretend to do ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌so.

Just to give you an idea of what he was alleging and talking about, see, there is this thing called the Rooney Rule, which is a regulation that compels teams to hold interviews with minority candidates when they are looking for a new head coach. And? Well, if you still don’t get it, see, if we consider just the document, it seems like a just measure. But the thing is, Mr. Flores claims that there are situations where teams carry out interviews just to tick off the boxes, but they don’t actually plan to hire those candidates in any way. And that’s not it, he actually went on to give his own encounters as examples in this case.

And it is not just the league itself, he is suing the team owners, like the Miami Dolphins’ owner, with the proposition of giving him money if he were to throw games on purpose so that the team could get a better draft pick. Sure enough, when this happened, his connection with the team started getting worse.

Key Court Decision in 2023

Sure enough, if you followed this one, no doubt, the‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ case went on, and it reached an important point in March 2023. The lawsuit was reviewed by a federal judge, Valerie Caproni, who decided that the majority of Flores’s claims could not be moved to private ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌arbitration.

Back then, in‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ a live court session, she actually went on to give the green light to Flores to keep up with his accusations against the NFL, the Giants, the Broncos, and the Houston Texans. Nevertheless, the allegations concerning the Miami Dolphins and a couple of others were moved to arbitration because of contract stipulations, and that is precisely what happened.
