HexClad is surely a brand that became super famous in the country, and yes, mainly because of those catchy and appealing non-toxic pans, which were of the highest quality, as per the claims of the brand itself. But some reports and testing out there showed something else, and that’s why this HexClad lawsuit is a thing, and it became a big one just a few years ago. So, let’s clear things up and see what we’re trying to point out here.

How Did The HexClad Lawsuit Start?
It was in July 2023, that a trio of consumers Khushbu Didwania, Pratikkumar Patel, and Benjamin Adams started the legal proceedings against HexClad through a lawsuit in a federal court of California.
The complaint stated that the main issue was regarding the ways in which HexClad advertised its cookware products. According to the customers, the company in its promotion of products used phrases such as “non-toxic,” “PFAS-free,” and “PFOA-free,” even though the cookware coating still contained PTFE.
PTFE becomes a focus here because it is the chemical that is usually associated with the entire class of PFAS chemicals, and that was precisely the lead plaintiffs’ point that the advertisement was deceptive for those who were intentionally avoiding these chemicals when purchasing cookware.
Who Are The Main People Or Parties In This Case?
The very first and main party in this case is the company HexClad Cookware Inc. that is known for manufacturing and marketing the hybrid cookware products. Besides the company, there are the three purchasers who have come forward to file a complaint against the company. Indubitably, these are the people who have opened the court and held the company’s product claims into question.
Moreover, Gordon Ramsay is the person whose name arises almost every time the issue is brought up. Simply put, that is because he is one of the most known and recognizable faces associated with the brand as well as he has been featured in numerous brand commercials and advertisements. Furthermore, he acquired a shareholding in the company back in 2021. Nevertheless, the thing is that, even though Gordon Ramsay is the person affiliated to the brand, he has not been made a personal defendant in this lawsuit.
Legally speaking, the buyers were the ones who had their own law firms working on their cases, while HexClad had its own courtroom legal team to handle the matter and present the defenses.
Why Did Buyers Take HexClad To Court?
There was only one big question in this court case. Buyers believed that HexClad’s marketing of its utensils was so effective that it gave people the idea that the pans did not contain certain chemicals even though the product coating still had PTFE.
Therefore, the complainants argued that such advertising must have led to confusion among the customers who bought the cookware based on safety-related claims.
Nowadays, many people are very cautious about buying kitchen utensils, especially when they see words “non-toxic” and “PFAS-free” on the label. In fact, buyers would often be happy to give a little more money for a product that is advertised as safer or cleaner. This is mainly the reason why the issue came up to the level of a lawsuit.
According to buyers, this was the main factor that influenced their choice. On the other hand, HexClad argued that their products are perfectly safe if utilized in the proper way and that the descriptions of their products were not misleading at all. However, the complaint filed with the court contradicted this attempt and took the issue to the next level.
What Was Included In The Settlement?
Instead of the legal squabble dragging on till the very end, the two sides decided to resolve the issue by settling. The settlement sum was 2.5 million dollars.
Under the conditions of the settlement, individuals who purchased specific HexClad cookware articles during the period February 1, 2022 to March 31, 2024 might be able to submit a claim for a settlement.
