Michael Oher Lawsuit Claims Tuohy Family Took Millions From Film Deal

You’d agree that The Blind Side movie was a feel-good one, and it was a good watch too. But it is now that we’re getting the news that all of that could have been just for the movie, and the support shown by the family to Michael Oher wasn’t even real. At least, that is what he is claiming for now. See, there is this official and ongoing Michael Oher Lawsuit that has a lot of unanswered questions, and if you didn’t catch up with all this, then we’d like you to just keep on reading.

How Michael’s Early Life Looked and How the Tuohys Entered the Picture

Michael Oher Lawsuit

Well, it is a popular opinion and known by many that yes, Michael‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ had a hard time growing up. Among the 12 siblings he was one of, his mother was addicted, and his father wasn’t there for him. That’s pretty tough for a kid that young, wouldn’t you say? And sure enough, because of all this, he had to spend a big chunk of his early life in foster homes, so all in all, his life wasn’t stable at that point.

But when he enrolled in a private Christian school in Memphis, that is when he first met Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, you know, a rich family who decided to help him. That is what you must have seen in the movie. Like, they have him in his safe place, meals, clothes, all that, so that he can continue his passion. And when he was around 17 or 18 years old, they told him that they’d like to adopt him. But then things went sideways, and what turned it all into this Michael Oher Lawsuit?

The Major Reveal: It Was Never an Adoption

Remember, we talked about that adoption thing? Well, it turns out that wasn’t real at all. According to Michael himself, just‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ one year after his 18th birthday, in 2004, the Tuohys handed him some legal documents to sign. Adoption documents, you ask? Nah! In actuality, they were conservatorship ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌documents.

And just in case you don’t know, well, a‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ conservatorship is when another person is allowed to make your financial and significant life decisions for you. It is normally reserved for individuals who are incapable of managing these things on their own. But do you even know that it was actually in the start of 2023 that he came to know about all this? No doubt, he felt kinda cheated about all this and went down the legal route to solve this matter.

The Money Question: Who Earned What?

It is actually about the money matter that got this case this far. See, according to Michael, there is a lot of confusion in this part, and he feels kinda cheated in all this. Like the film, The Blind Side, made over $300 million globally. Michael mentions that the Tuohys, along with their two children, got around $225,000 each and also some profit percentages, which is equivalent to millions. But, he is claiming that he did not get any share at ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌all.

Of course, as you would expect, the Tuohy‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ family refutes this. From the very start, they are saying that Michael was given the same amount as each of them, about $138,000 each over time, and that they supplied some payment records as evidence of that. But, so far, Michael is continuously said that he didn’t get any of that.

And right now, as of December 2025, this case is still ongoing, actually. Since the controversy is too old and there are a lot of things to be talked about and considered, that is why, this case will certainly take some time to get settled.
