Wegovy Lawsuit: Patients Say the “Miracle Shot” Made Them Sick

The fat loss industry is a big one in the United States, but the thing is, there are many drugs out there that claim to be the magical drug for an impressive fat loss journey. In reality, most of such drugs come with additional side effects, and no, we’re not talking about the minor inconvenience or anything like that, nah, we’re talking about some serious stuff like paralysis or blindness. At least that’s the case with the Wegovy Lawsuit so far.

What Went Wrong: Side Effects Behind the Lawsuits

Sure enough, when a drug like this is launched into the market and marketed as a fat loss drug, no doubt, a lot of people are going to just jump onto the use of it, and that’s why the usage of it grew like crazy in no time. But the thing is, unexpected side effects were waiting for many users and that is pretty much the core of this case. The most serious claims include:

  • Gastroparesis (stomach paralysis), where food stops moving through the digestive system
  • Intestinal blockages and nonstop vomiting
  • Vision loss linked to NAION (a rare optic-nerve condition)
  • Blood clots and pulmonary embolisms, with reports showing a sharply increased risk
  • Gallbladder disease, pancreatitis, kidney damage, and thyroid tumors

Many users out there clearly say that they actually read about the possible side effects, but the company itself had mentioned only a few side effects, like mild nausea and something like that. But the users didn’t expect that they would end up with super serious medical conditions down the line. Like paralysis or blindness? Really?

In fact, the FDA and European regulators both upgraded the warning labels of Wegovy to highlight dangerous gastrointestinal infections in late 2024 and 2025, and that’s how it is for now. But the thing is, in reality, the changes to the labels were after the patients had already suffered the consequences of the wounds, so for them, it was merely an ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌update and nothing else. Many users’ life has already been shaken up quite a bit because of the side effects and there is no going back now.

How The Wegovy Lawsuits Began

In case you want to know how it all came to light, well, just know that everything‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ changed after research published in JAMA in 2023 revealed increased risk of gastroparesis as well as bowel obstruction among patients on GLP-1 drugs such as Wegovy.

And?

Oh, not long after, precisely in September 2023, the very first major lawsuit was brought forward by a woman from Pennsylvania. In the case details, it is clearly mentioned that she took the drug Wegovy as per the doctor’s instructions, developed gastroparesis, and was admitted to the hospital.

The Plaintiff’s litigation, the first one’s and the rest, set forth the allegation that Novo Nordisk was aware of the safety issues but did not adequately alert the medical community and the patients.

And since then the discussion has gone beyond a question of merely medical literature to one of trust and ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌betrayal.

The Legal Structure: Wegovy MDL 3094

No doubt, after all this was going on, by‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ early 2024, there were similar lawsuits being initiated all over the U.S. At the moment, the federal courts decided to manage them by combining the cases into a Multidistrict Litigation, which is known as MDL 3094.

And in case you don’t know what it really is, see, an MDL gathers a number of similar lawsuits and assigns the cases to a single judge for the shared evidence and arguments. Here, the MDL is under the direction of Judge Karen Marston in Pennsylvania.

The MDL contains the lawsuits against multiple GLP-1 drugs such as Wegovy and Ozempic because they essentially work the same way, and people are blaming them for similar types of injuries.

Almost 3,000 cases were active as of December ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌2025.
