If you have been following the music scene lately, then there is no way you haven’t heard of Chandler Moore yet, right? Well, of late, he has been in the headlines pretty frequently, actually. Why? As you may already know, he is among the very well-known gospel artists from Maverick City Music, but right now, he is going after Norman Gyamfi by the legal route and has filed this lawsuit (which we now know as the Chandler Moore Lawsuit). If you don’t really know what’s the matter here, then just keep on reading to properly follow up.

Chandler and Maverick City

First, Let’s Just Have A Quick Look at Chandler and Maverick City

See, you gotta know that before these events, Chandler and the Maverick City crew were on a roll. The inception of Maverick City Music in Atlanta in 2018 was a quick turnaround to the style of contemporary gospel. Back then, of course, tunes such as “Jireh” and “Promises” spread around the world and were widely used in church services for worship.

One of the major factors that contributed to the success of the group was the early involvement of Chandler Moore. Just so you know, he co-wrote songs and toured with the band, thus assisting Maverick City to expand its reach beyond the US to the whole world. At that time, Norman Gyamfi was the manager of Chandler. And sure enough, he took care of the financial side of the business, like agreements, receipts, and relationships. From the get-go, Chandler confided in him with total security. Nevertheless, according to the lawsuit, it seems that the trust may have been mislaid.

How It All Started

As per the details that are already out, among the lawsuits from the federal court in Atlanta, which were filed on October 1, 2024, is the one in which Chandler Moore has brought a case against Norman Gyamfi, Maverick City Music, TRIBL Records, and TRIBL Publishing. After only a few days, precisely on October 6, via his Instagram, Chandler informed his followers that he had left the group. The duration tells a whole lot, that’s for sure.

The lawsuit filed by Chandler was the cause that opened up the extent of the lies that had been told to him in a very profound manner. Besides chasing down Norman, he wanted to get hold of those firms that were at least partially connected with the Maverick City line of business, and that’s why he went down the legal path.

What Chandler Says Happened

Let’s break it down in simple terms.

Between the years 2020 and 2023, Chandler’s manager and business partner was Norman Gyamfi. According to Chandler (that’s what he is claiming in this lawsuit so far), Norman covertly established transactions that were to his advantage and not to the client’s while he was overseeing him.

As the story goes, in 2021, Norman made a secret agreement with the distribution division of Sony, The Orchard, for the sale of Maverick City’s master recordings. Chandler claims that he was completely oblivious to the making of this agreement, and Norman went off with part of the earnings without informing him whatsoever.

Though, subsequently, the year 2022 was a downhill curve and just bear with us, and you’ll know why and how. Well, one of the reasons Norman may be singled out is that he is said to have given the command to Essential Music Publishing (a part of Sony’s Christian music branch) that royalties, which were Chandlers’, should be rerouted to Maverick City Music rather than being handed over to him directly.

That counterfeit agreement is what allegedly allows the other party to take over 50% of the writing rights along with “irrevocable power of attorney,” which, in actuality, means the giving of rights, at the same time of separation, and without the consent of the owner to the music and business affairs.
